I have a 98 Yamaha Timberwolf. If I try to leave it idling it dies. It doesnt seem like it has the power that is should. Any suggestions on what could be causing this? And my reverse handle is broke. It is a pain in the butt. Any ideas on how you could change this without burning yourself all the time?

Sounds like the carb is out of adjustment. Slightly increase the idle, find the low speed needle adjustment and gently turn it clockwise. Then find the high speed adjustment and again gently turn it counter clockwise then ride and test your new adjustments. Mind you no adjustment should be made more than about 1 hour at a time before you try it again. sounds like it's close if it runs. Fine adjustments are the key. Also a clogged fuel filter can cause a lack of power. I suggest changing the filter and spark plug if it's been awhile. I generally change my plug every 6-9 months regardless if it needs it or not. This is good insurance too not get stranded in the woods! Fuel filter every six months for sure(with alot of riding). If the vehicle sits for more than a month at a time make sure too add Stabil too the gas tank. As today's fuel has Ethynol and that draws moisture into you gas if it sits. This will cause poor performance and gunked up fuel system. Mind you this is just my opinion from previous expeience and the maintianence I perform on my equipment. Hope it serves as helpful too you also. You can find online manuals too your quad online, as too the locations of needle adjustments/locations. just do not be tempted too run the adjustment screw more than a quarter turn at a time. As you will find yourself way out in left field and further from right than when you started. You can also Private Message HortonsOutdoors on here. He is a professional mechanic and can help you with all your repair needs. As far as I am concerned he is one of the best in the business!

did you have any luck with it yet. if not may need the carb to come off to be cleaned. we can do that and check the reed valves. re-install the carb and adjust.

Well I had one person tell me that we needed to buy a rebuild carb kit. Another said that if we run some stuff through the gas tank a few times that it will take care of it. They think it is from sitting for 3 years and something with the fuel and its fowling my plug out

How close are you too Horton's Outdoors(Wood River)? Sounds like you need too have a shop go through it. It would be worth the money too not have a machine that will leave you stranded. Without seeing it, It's hard too say what is wrong for sure.

That's awesome! Just in time too get out and enjoy this cooler weather. I hope we get enough members by next year too have a ALL ATV event at one of the parks. It would be a good time and everyone could meet eachother and share the great outdoors together. I'm thinking either Little Egypt or Crooked Creek. Not sure yet have too see how it goes. We are still too new too make plans for now. Remember too tell a friend!!
